1. 1. The acute effects (0-7 hr) of physical disturbance on plasma glucose and thyroid hormone concentrations were studied in trout cannulated in the dorsal aorta and starved for 3 days. 2. 2. Deliberate disturbance caused closely correlated significant elevations in plasma lthyroxine (T4) and glucose to a maximum at 3 hr, with no change in plasma 3,5,3'-triiodo-lthyronine or packed cell volume. 3. 3. Since glucose injection alone acutely increases both plasma glucose and T4, the disturbance-induced acute elevation in plasma T4 may be due to the parallel rise in glucose. © 1990.
