DIRECT OBSERVATION OF INTRAMOLECULAR ENERGY-TRANSFER FROM A BETA-DIKETONATE TO TERBIUM(III) ION ENCAPSULATED IN A CRYPTAND

摘要
The kinetics and pathway for the energy transfer from acetylacetonate (acac) to Tb3+ encapsulated in the macrocyclic cage of a cryptand in aqueous solution is established by time-resolved picosecond laser spectroscopy. The direct energy transfer from the 3-pi-pi* state of acac to the Tb3+ ion has been confirmed by monitoring the luminescence decay of acac and the concomitant appearance of Tb3+ luminescence at 546 nm. An intramolecular energy transfer rate of 9.7 X 10(9) s-1 is observed.
