ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF BULK OPTICAL-PROPERTIES IN SMALL SEMICONDUCTOR CRYSTALLITES

摘要
Recent work on the preparation and characterization of small crystallites of the direct gap, II-VI semiconductors CdS and ZnS is reviewed. The optical and resonance Raman spectra show that the optical spectra in the band gap region are quite sensitive to crystallite size. Even in relatively large CdS crystallites containing more than 10**3 atoms the crystallite lowest excited state lies several tenths of an ev higher than the bulk band gap.
