THE KINETICS OF SILVER ELECTRODEPOSITION ON IODINE-COVERED PT(111)

摘要
The kinetics of electrodeposition of silver on a single-crystal Pt electrode covered with a monolayer of iodine (Pt(111)(square-root 7 x square-root 7)R19.1-degrees-I) were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and the potential step technique. The kinetics of the first silver deposition peak were found to be slower on more ordered surfaces, suggesting that surface defects accelerate the deposition. Island growth with the rate determining step at the edge of islands was found for the deposition, but not for the stripping reaction. The interconversion of the iodine adlattice from (3 x 3) to (square-root 7 x square-root 7) plays a key role in the silver deposition.
