MAGNETISM IN R-T INTERMETALLIC COMPOUNDS WITH NAZN13-TYPE OR ITS DERIVATIVE STRUCTURE

摘要
The magnetic moments in RT(13-x)M(x) (R = La; T = Co, Fe; M = Al, Si) intermetallic compounds with NaZn13-type or its derivative structure were analyzed by the magnetic valence model. Based on the available data, the analysis indicates that RT(13-x)M(x) compounds are strongly ferromagnetic in character, and the average magnetic moment per atom, (mu), can be well predicted by a simple formula: (mu) = (Z(m)) + 0.8, where (Z(m)) is the magnetic valence averaged over all constituents. The simple formula is also valid for the nitrides LaCo13-xFexNy. The ferromagnetic behavior of R-Fe (R is a nonmagnetic rare earth metal) binary intermetallic compounds is briefly discussed within the framework of the magnetic valence model.
