摘要
Ecological and thermodynamic analysis shows that the tremendous speed of matter and energy degradation of the earth is the genuine cause of land deterioration. The temporary emancipation from land since the industrial revolution still heavily depends upon land-based resources, especially fossil fuels, stored in the past. The prophetic views of Liebig and Marx concerning land deterioration are reconsidered. Not only the essential differences but also similarities between manufacturing and farming will be presented. Several technological proposals for a secure food supply will be critically appraised. This study suggests a drastic reorientation of economic activities in the future to preserve our land.
