摘要
Understanding of organo-crystalline interactions is vital in the study of the formation of biomineralized structures including bones and teeth. Crystal faces of the same form but on opposite sides of the mirror plane of symmetry in monoclinic (2/m) gypsum are shown in 28 instances to exhibit unequal affinity for chiral organic molecules. Preferential adsorption results in crystal habits that are asymmetric with respect to the mirror plane. Computer modeling supports an epitaxial-like relationship.
