摘要
A method has been developed and successfully applied to study the high temperature static and time dependent mechanical properties of niobium-aluminum intermetallic compounds. Essentially single phase NbAl3 has been cast and analyzed with this technique. These results will be compared with previous data from two-phase alloys containing NbAl3. Analysis of NbAl3/Nb2Al mixtures showed the promising nature of the more niobium-rich compositions. Recent results for the highest melting temperature and more promising Nb3Al compound have borne out this prediction. In addition to static hardness up to 1400-degrees-C, the stress exponent and activation energy for creep have been surmized. Most recently, initial results on Nb2Al further support the progression of enhancing high temperature feasibility with increasing niobium concentration.
