CODE-TYPE CONGRUENCE BETWEEN MMPI AND MMPI-2 - SEPARATING FACT FROM ARTIFACT

Samples of 2,600 normative subjects and 423 psychiatric patients were utilized to examine the degree of congruence between Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and MMPI-2 code types. When code types had definition of at least 5 T-score points, congruence was considerably greater than had been reported in the test manual. The use of uniform rather than linear T-scores had a negligible effect on code-type congruence. Code-type congruence was much greater between the two forms of the test (one administration) than between two administrations of each form of the test. In the rare instances when a well-defined code type was not the same for the MMPI and the MMPI-2, the MMPI-2 code type almost always contained at least one of the scales in the MMPI code type, and descriptions based on the MMPI-2 code type were at least as accurate, and perhaps more accurate, than those based on the MMPI code type. © 1991, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
