INTERNAL-FRICTION STUDY ON THE ORDER-DISORDER PHASE-TRANSITION OF FULLERITE FILM

摘要
Corresponding to a downward cusp of the elastic modulus, a narrow lambda-shaped internal friction peak appears at 251 K for a fullerite film on a fused SiO2 substrate, having a very small thermal hysteresis (< 1 K). X-ray diffraction shows an anomalous change of the lattice constant a near 251 K. The mechanism of the lambda-shaped internal friction peak at 251 K may be attributed to the stress-induced motion of the interphase boundary for the order-disorder transition and due to the preferential distribution of fluctuating new phase components with an equivalent orientation. The effect of oxygen in air has been primarily explored.
