The magnetic properties of hexagonal Y//2(Co//1// minus //xM//x)//1//7 intermetallics with M equals Al and Cu, and x less than equivalent to 0. 18 were studied on single-crystal specimens at 77 to 477 K. In the case of M equals Al, the saturation moment and the Curie temperature decrease rapidly with Al content, and the magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant K//1 changes sign from negative to positive at small x and all temperatures studied. In the case of M equals Cu, the magnetic properties do not change significantly. The variation in K//1 with Al and Cu is explained by partially preferential displacement by Al, and random displacement by Cu of Co in the respective crystals.
