APPLICATIONS OF SIMULTANEOUS IBA TECHNIQUES TO AEROSOL ANALYSIS

摘要
The simultaneous use of proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE), proton induced gamma ray emission (PIGME) and proton elastic scattering analysis (PESA) for the determination of up to 35 different elemental concentrations, from hydrogen to uranium, in aerosol samples will be discussed. These techniques are fast, nondestructive, require no sample preparation and can analyse the microgram size samples found on typical fine aerosol filter papers. Minimum detectable limits corresponding to around 1 ng/m3 of air are readily obtainable after just a few minutes of machine running time.
