MAGNETOELECTRIC EFFECT OF GDMN2O5 SINGLE-CRYSTAL

摘要
Magnetic, magnetoelectric and dielectric measurements were made on single crystals of GdMn2O5. It was revealed that GdMn2O5 showed magnetoelectric effect below T(me1) of 39 K, when static bias magnetic field was present. This shows that GdMn2O5 becomes non-centrosymmetric at T(me1). Another transition was observed at T(me2) = 26 K, below which magnetoelectric effect increased remarkably. In addition a peak exists in the temperature dependence of dielectric constants epsilon(b) and epsilon(c). The magnetoelectric signal at 4.2 K and 15 kOe corresponds to the magnetoelectric susceptibility of 2 x 10(-3) (CgS/cm3). It is more than 10 times as large as the maximum value in Cr2O3.
