STABILITY OF CUO SURFACES TO REACTIONS WITH ADSORBED N-BUTYL AMINE - AN X-RAY PHOTOELECTRON-SPECTROSCOPY STUDY

摘要
The reaction of n-butyl amine adsorbed on the binary oxide CuO bas been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy at various temperatures, paying special attention to the surface composition. n-Butyl amine is found to reduce the oxidation state of copper. The reversibility of the surface chemical states on re-oxidation has been investigated especially. Evidence for the formation of peroxide ions or of multimeric oxygen species formed on re-oxidation is presented. CuO is found to be regenerated on re-oxidation.
