MODELING OF WATER TRANSPORT AND SOLUTE RELEASE IN PHYSIOLOGICALLY SENSITIVE GELS

摘要
Water transport into and solute release from ionic, hydrophilic, initially glassy polymeric networks were investigated by deriving a model which takes in consideration the strong concentration dependence of the penetrant and solute diffusion coefficients. The model was solved with appropriate boundary conditions in an ionic buffered solution exhibiting simultaneous ionization of its components. Water uptake and solute release were described in terms of the Swelling Interface number and other parameters of the polymer/buffer system.
