The application of reverse osmosis (RO) technology for the production of high purity water, process stream modification and water recovery is growing at an accelerated rate. Each application makes unique demands on the performance of RO water system technology. A wealth of experience and technology has been accumulated over the last two decades. We present a general overview of fouling followed by actions that the plant manager can take in pretreatment and maintenance of a system.
