The influence of anionic substitution on the charge density wave (CDW) state in 1T-TaS2 has been investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy. It was found that the 10% selenium substitution, forming 1T-TaS1.8Se0.2, significantly perturbs the electronic property of the material such that the surface atomic lattice was imaged along with the perturbed CDWs. In addition, several annihilated bright spots of CDWs as well as the local distortion of the CDW pattern surrounding the annihilated region were found. The observation of surface atomic structure along with the perturbed CDWs clearly demonstrates the changes in the Fermi surface due to the different anion mixing.
