A new synthesis of molecular tweezers of type 1 is more efficient and general, and allows access to 3, a receptor whose structure is closer to being optimized for adenine binding. Receptor 3 binds adenine in chloroform with kassoc > 105 M-1. © 1990, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
