DETERMINATION OF ORGANIC AND INORGANIC SULFUR BY ION CHROMATOGRAPHY IN SMALL QUANTITIES OF PLANT-MATERIAL

摘要
A combination of methods has been worked out for determination of organic and inorganic sulphur when only small quantities of plant material are available. The method for determination of organic sulphur is based on the combustion of the organic matter in a combustion tube and the oxidation of the combustion products (SO2/SO3 mixture) to sulphate. The inorganic portion of the sulphur content can be dissolved out from the ash after complete combustion. The subsequent determination of the organic and inorganic sulphur fractions as sulphate by ion chromatography has been done by using well-established techniques. The complete procedure has been tested on model solutions of sulphur compounds in the range of 5 to 500 mu g S per sample. For our planned applications the accuracy was good and the results were reproducible. Advantages and limits of application of the method are discussed.
