摘要
The weight of carbon whiskers formed by pyrolysis of benzene was decreased at a temperature higher than 600-degrees-C by oxidation under air atmosphere. Oxidation of carbon whiskers with carbon dioxide was a reaction of first order and its activation energy was 145 kJ/mol. Oxidation began in the turbostatic layer on the outside of carbon whiskers, and then a ''graphite-like'' domain inside the carbon whiskers was exposed. After oxidation treatment functional groups of ether, carbonyl and lactone were added to the surface of the carbon whiskers.
