KINETICS OF NCO PLUS HYDROCARBON REACTIONS

The kinetics of NCO reactions with hydrocarbon molecules were investigated using time-resolved infrared diode laser absorption spectroscopy. NCO was probed at 1905.6 cm-1, and HNCO reaction products were probed at 2280.1 cm-1. Rate constants at 296 K were measured to be <1.0x10(-14), (7.04+/-1.20)x10(-14), (2.29+/-0.13)x10(-13), (6.13+/-0.32)x10(-13), (8.7 8+/-0.42)x10(-13), (7.47+/-0.8)x10(-14), and (2.85+/-0.22)x10(-12) cm3 molecule-1 s-1, for CH4, C2H6, C3H8, n-C4H10, n-C5H,2., C2H2, and C2H4, respectively. Hydrogen abstraction to form HNCO was observed to be a major product channel for reactions with alkanes and for C2H2. For C2H2, HNCO is formed in negligible yield, indicating that addition-elimination is the primary mechanism active.
