EVIDENCE FOR A MOMENT ON RHODIUM IN AMORPHOUS (FEXRH1-X)80B20 ALLOYS

Magnetism in amorphous alloys of (FexRh1-x)80B20 (1 x>=0.25) has been investigated. We find evidence for a sizable moment on rhodium. Our data suggest that the moment is induced discontinuously when Rh atoms have at least 4 Fe near neighbors. The Fe57 hyperfine field varies anomalously with the average transition-metal moment, which is at variance with the linear dependence reported in several Fe transition metal boron glasses. The observed Tc variation with x fits a coherent-potential-approximation model. © 1990 The American Physical Society.
