摘要
The use of metal complexes to crosslink polymeric chains into gels and elastic networks has advantages over more traditional methods of cure for certain applications. Metal complexes frequently have unique spectral signatures with strong absorption coefficients. Previous research demonstrated that gels are formed on addition of Cu(II) salts to SBR ACAC chelates. Here, we describe the synthesis and characterization of an elastomer of the same polymer, but with Pd(II) being used to form the bridge. In addition, the properties of two ACAC-bearing endcappers for hydroxyl terminated PDMS are discussed along with preliminary work towards the production of 'model' metal-linked elastomers. Stress-strain measurements have been performed on these Pd(II) crosslinked SIR elastomers, and the results demonstrate that the materials are useful for physical testing.
