A multiple scaling relaxation scheme has been developed to solve for the magnetotelluric response of a 3-D earth model using finite differences on a staggered grid. Three dimensional MT relaxation solutions are difficult because the system is so ill-conditioned. A multiple scaling approach is implemented that is an improvement over single scale relaxation. After only a modest number of iterations, results are obtained that compare fairly well with the results obtained from a direct method. These algorithms are quick and simple, and they could easily be installed onto modern computer workstations. -from Authors
