摘要：

A determination is made whether energy can be produced economically by pressure-retarded osmosis (PRO). Preliminary technical and economic correlations are developed which can be used to obtain unit costs of energy provided certain experiments are performed. The mechanical efficiency of a PRO power plant is examined. A preliminary analysis was made of the unit cost of energy production from a PRO plant. The results are expressed as a function of the water flux, and the hydraulic pressure used.
