STIMULATED RAMAN-SPECTROSCOPY IN THE NU-1 REGION OF ISOTOPICALLY SUBSTITUTED BENZENE DIMERS - EVIDENCE FOR SYMMETRICALLY INEQUIVALENT BENZENE MOIETIES

摘要
We report ionization-detected stimulated Raman measurements on four benzene dimer isotopomers. Both isotopically pure and isotopically mixed dimers exhibit a splitting of their v1 fundamentals into doublets. The two excited vibrational levels associated with a given species' Raman doublet give rise to significantly different vibronic spectra. It is argued that the results are strong evidence for a ground-state benzene dimer geometry in which the benzene moieties are symmetrically inequivalent.
