摘要
The collision model describes insect interception at spider orb-webs as a static process where prey capture is determined by the relationship between the size the web''s mesh and the size of potential prey. Orb-webs are not static nets and prey capture reflects a dynamic interaction between spider and insect. One component of this interaction is web oscillation. The natural oscillations of orb-webs greatly enhance web interception of small and slowly fly prey., The oscillatory behavior of webs probably are an important means of ecological differentiation between adult spiders of different species and sizes and between spiders of the same species but different age classes.
