ANTHROPOGENIC NH3 EMISSIONS IN EUROPE

The first emission survey with spatially detailed information is presented. Sources of atmospheric ammonia considered include livestock wastes, fertilizers and some industrial activities. The countries involved are 26 European and 1 Asian country. The total ammonia emission is approximately 6. 4 Mt of NH//3 a** minus **1 with a major contribution (81%) from livestock wastes. Calculations, showing spatially emission data, are made for the grid elements of the EMEP grid (150 multiplied by 150 km**2 at 60 degree N). Emissions in grid elements range from 200 to 4000 kg NH//3 km** minus **2 a** minus **1.
