Forced chemical vapor infiltration (FCVI) is being developed as an efficient means for producing thick-wall ceramic matrix components. Recent efforts have focused on process scale-up, modeling and the properties of the resultant material. Disks 24.6 cm in diameter and 1.27 cm thick have been produced. Composites of Nicalon(TM) fibers and SiC matrix have exhibited 480 MPa strength in flexure.
