MICROSCOPIC THEORY OF ENHANCED NONLINEAR REFRACTION IN SEMICONDUCTOR SUPERLATTICES

摘要
We report a full-scale calculation of the third-order susceptibility in semiconductor superlattices. A new method of enhancement of the virtual response is proposed and it is shown that a realistic choice of structural parameters can be made to generate susceptibilities several orders of magnitude larger than those reported for bulk materials. However, it transpires that estimates based on approximate methods significantly overestimate the strength of the nonlinear response. © 1990 The American Physical Society.
