Increased public concern about pollution and the resulting health hazards has led to growing interest in the monitoring of ozone in ambient air. High ozone concentrations in cities due to photochemical smog or in offices due to photocopiers and laser-printers lead to an increased demand for reliable, easy to use ozone monitors. We propose a measurement and evaluation method for ozone using a copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) thin-film sensor as the detecting element. Satisfying reproducibility and a long lifetime of the sensor are achieved through dynamic evaluation of the sensor resistance by switching between clean and sample air. Good accuracy (<5%) and a large operating range (10-5000 ppb) can be achieved with this technique.
