Most solar collectors have a fixed orientation and a difference in collection efficiency between diffuse radiation and direct solar radiation. Knowledge of the directional and temporal distribution of diffuse radiation can assist in the siting and alignment of solar collection devices of many types. This paper describes a simple device that has been constructed and used in conjunction with a pyranometer to measure directly diffuse sky radiation from a fraction of the sky.
