摘要
The paper describes an investigation into the application of the genetic algorithm in the optimization of structural design. Stochastic processes generate an initial population of designs and then apply principles of natural selection/survival of the fittest to improve the designs. Consideration is given to the analysis and design interfaces, and the basic operations of selection, crossover, mutation and parameter scaling. Some results from a number of practical applications are presented.
