DYNAMICS OF UP-CONVERSION FOR PHOTOEXCITED PAIRS OF ER-3+ IONS IN CSCDBR3 CRYSTALS

Pulsed excitation of Er3+-doped CsCdBr3 crystals at 547.5 nm produces observable fluorescences at 338 and 385 nm which are attributable to up-conversion from interacting pairs of excited Er3+ ions. The decay curves from the blue-shifted emissions show a well-resolved rise and fall. Analysis of the curves indicates that the relaxation of the excited pairs which appears to be largely due to energy transfer processes has a 25 to 30 μs lifetime at both 77 and 300 K. There are significant differences between the up-conversion fluorescence observed under pulsed excitation and that previously reported for continuous excitation. © 1990.
