SPECTRAL STATISTICS OF ACOUSTIC RESONANCES IN ALUMINUM BLOCKS

摘要
We measure several hundred acoustic resonances in aluminum blocks. The statistical properties of these spectra are analyzed and compared to predictions form random matrix theory. A Poisson behavior is found for a rectangular block. the transition from Poisson to Gaussian orthogonal ensemble statistics is studied by measuring aluminum blocks manufactured in the shape of three-dimensional Sinai billiards.
