摘要
The application of synthetic materials for bone replacement is now well established, but it is recognized that mechanical compatibility, as well as biocompatibility, of the tissue and implant is required if stress shielding and consequent bone resorption is to be avoided at areas of fixation. The development of materials analogous to the natural tissue for longer term implantation is discussed, with particular reference to hydroxyapatite reinforced polymers.
