CHARACTERIZATION OF NATIVE AND RECOMBINANT INTERLEUKIN-1 INHIBITOR ON T-CELL, MONOCYTE, AND B-CELL RESPONSE TO INTERLEUKIN-1

The effects of human monocyte-generated and recombinant interleukin (IL)-1 inhibitor on selected T cell, monocyte and B cell functions were studied. Neither inhibited IL-1-mediated immunoglobulin production by human mononuclear cells nor zymosan-induced IL-1 production by human monocytes. However, the IL-1 inhibitors significantly suppressed IL-1-alpha-induced IL-1 beta secretion and IL-1-beta-induced IL-1 alpha secretion. They also inhibited IL-1-primed IL-2 production. These observations suggest different effects of IL-1 inhibitor on different human cells, and that recombinant IL-1 inhibitor has similar biological properties to the native product.
