摘要
This letter contains a preliminary report of the results of experiments designed to determine the influence of the ordered field of a supported stearic acid film on the structure of the surface of liquid Hg. Using grazing incidence X-ray diffraction, we find that an ordered stearic acid monolayer induces a liquid Hg substrate to order in a commensurate manner. Comment is made on the implications the findings have for insoluble monolayers at the air/water interface.
