INSITU MICROSCOPIC INVESTIGATIONS OF CRYSTAL-GROWTH PROCESSES IN THE SYSTEM BI2O3-GEO2

摘要
The crystal growth processes occurring in the system Bi2O3-GeO2 were investigated systematically by in situ high temperature microscopy. Nucleation, growth and dissolution of stable and metastable phases at temperatures between 700 and 1100 °C were directly observed and recorded by means of a video system. The morphology of each phase and its dependence on growth rate and motherphase composition is discussed, and a morphological phase diagram is given. The observed crystal forms are compared with the results of a Bravais-Friedel-Donnay-Harker analysis. Two new metastable phases are described and their location in the phase diagram is indicated. © 1990.
