AUDIOLOGIC MANIFESTATIONS IN BILATERAL ACOUSTIC TUMORS (VONRECKLINGHAUSENS DISEASE)

A review and discussion of bilateral acoustic tumors (von Recklinghausen''s Disease) with emphasis on the audiological manifestations, were provided. To aid in our clinical description of this disease a series of 22 patients are summarized and 3 case reports are presented. The audiometric findings are shown to be quite different from what is generally seen in unilateral tumors. Because of the significant complications that can be associated with this disorder, especially in the later stages, the importance of early detection is emphasized. Strategies for audiologic management are also presented.
