An implantable transmitter for 6 differential input signals and 2 reference signals for measuring the electrical control activity of the smooth muscle tissue of the gastrointestinal tract in dogs was described. The reference signals provided for synchronizing the demultiplexer in the receiver, for automatic amplitude and 0-level calibration of the received signals, and for automatic frequency control of the receiver. A magnetically operated switch allowed the transmitter to be turned off during idle periods. The battery life allowed 200 h of operation during a period of many months. Signals up to 30 mV peak-to-peak and 0-100 Hz were transmitted.
