摘要
Using a specially designed instrument, the formation time of drops at a circular tip of a biconical capillary are measured with high precision. At tip diameters of 5.8 and 7.8 mm and drop formation times lower than 1 s, stable intervals as well as regions of high scattering are observed. At certain liquid flow rates, bifurcations of the measured drop times are observed which are very stable under constant flow conditions. The presence of surfactants (Triton X-165 and sodium dodecyl sulphate) damps the scattering of the data, but bifurcations and splittings of higher order are observed as well. The formation of standing waves between the detaching and residing drop could be a possible qualitative explanation of the data obtained.
