摘要
Qualitative and quantitative laboratory analyses of free amino acids and amides in apple tissue, washed cells, and cell-free culture filtrate of the bacterium, Pseudomonas melophthora (Allen and Riker), an obligate extracellular symbiote of the apple maggot, Rhagoletis pomonella (Walsh), revealed that this micro-organism probably provided certain essential amino acids absent in apple tissue. Among the generally recognized ten 'essential' amino acids, those not detected or present in trace amounts were arginine and methionine in healthy apple tissue, tryptophan in washed cells of P. melophthora, and none in cell-free culture filtrate of this organism. Although there is no proof that apple tissue lacks amino acids essential for R. pomonella, P. melophthora would appear to provide such amino acids for the host. Proof of this hypothesis must await the development of a nutritionally defined diet for R. pomonella. © 1968.
