ESSENTIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR SPECTRAL LOCALIZATION USING INDIRECT GRADIENT ENCODING OF SPATIAL INFORMATION

An analysis of the essential elements of spectral localization using indirect gradient encoding of spatial information is presented. The analysis is based on the general formulation of the selective Fourier transform algorithm, which allows definition of the spatial response shape and the location of the region of spectral localization. Indirect spatial encoding with phase or amplitude modulation is compared. The efficiency of defining the spatial response shape is discussed and various windowing techniques for determining the spatial response are compared for their relative sensitivity. This analysis allows direct comparison between techniques of indirect gradient encoding for spectral localization and facilitates the selection of the optimum technique for a particular situation. © 1991.
