CONFORMATIONAL DEFECTS IN POLY(3-ALKYLTHIOPHENE)S AND THEIR COPOLYMERS

摘要
The thermal and spectroscopic analysis on poly(3-alkylthiophene)s (P3ATs) indicate a presence of transitions due to main chain and side chain relaxations in addition to the melting transition. These two additional transitions resulting from conformational defects give changes in energies of absorption maximum by about 0.1 eV and 0.015 eV respectively. The former (soft conformon) is significant in comparison to that of the melting transition (about 0.3 - 0.4 eV). The conformatonal defects in the copolymer are more pronounced due to the presence of different length of side chains along the main chains which disturbs the polymer chains from stacking to form layered structure.
