摘要
The power conversion system (PCS) is the interface between an electric utility and a diurnal-load-leveling superconductive magnetic energy storage (SMES) unit. From the utility viewpoint, the PCS for a diurnal load-leveling SMES unit must provide (a) rapidly reversible, bidirectional energy between the AC utility and the SMES; (b) high efficiency, round-trip energy transfer (94 to 97%, or better); and (c) have acceptable reactive power demand and harmonic generation characteristics. PCS units for the proposed SMES must operate at DC current levels that vary over a 3 to 1 range and up to several hundred kilo-amperes. The problems of reactive power control and current sharing between large numbers of paralleled PCS modules are being investigated analytically and on an experimental laboratory system at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
