ANOMALIES IN THE KINETICS OF HALOGENATION, HOT-ATOM EFFECTS

摘要
It is proposed that gross discrepancies reported in the literature for the kinetic rate constants for Cl + C2H6 and Cl + C2D6 may be a consequence of a hot Cl atom produced in the chain system. The exothermic step responsible for this is C2H5 + Cl2 --> C2H5Cl + Cl + 25 kcal, followed by the slightly exothermic: Cl + C2H6 --> HCl + C2H5 + 3 kcal. Similar anomalies can arise in brominations while related effects may occur in solution halogenations.
