Inductive fault current limiter device models using sintered or melt-textured YBa2Cu3O7-x rings were tested. An anomalous feature in the primary-current behavior was observed in the presence of melt-textured YBCO rings, consisting of the appearance of instabilities in the form of several peaks in the primary-current signal. The connection of this effect with the form of the voltage-current characteristics and thermal processes in the superconducting ring is discussed.
