Phase separation and solid solution of stoichiometric and nonstoichiometric (Sr, Mg)TiO3ceramics were studied using HR-AEM (high-resolution analytical electron microscopy). SrTiO3and MgTiO3phase separation was observed in all specimens. In addition, a small amount of MgTi2O5was detected in a B-site-excess specimen. Mg solid solution to SrTiO3could not be detected, but Sr solid solution to MgTiO3was detected. This arose from the different structural packing density between the SrTiO3perovskite structure and the MgTiO3ilmenite structure. © 1990 IOP Publishing Ltd.
