CHAOTIC BEHAVIOR OF VARIABLE THICKNESS BRIDGES FABRICATED FROM YBCO

Chaotic behaviour has been observed in variable thickness microbridges fabricated in thick film YBCO on YSZ substrates. The current-voltage characteristics show well defined Shapiro steps under microwave bias conditions. With increasing microwave power the characteristics develop instabilities identical in form to those observed and predicted in low temperature superconductor junctions for chaotic solutions of the junction equation. The approximate location of the junction in the Ω-β plane has been estimated and found to lie in the region in which hysteretic instabilities are predicted. © 1990.
